La rencontre: a performative tea
This summer you are invited to attend La Rencontre, a performative tea. The seemingly simple act of taking tea is shaped by diverse cultural traditions, colonial histories, and personal narratives. In partnership with Gallery Urban Shaman [La Maison des artistes visuels francophones], this event brings together live performance, participatory ritual, and personal reflection around the frameworks and rituals for making and drinking tea.
Join Fait Maison (Thomas Grondin, Anna Khimasia and Theo Pelmus), and artists KC Adams, Jaime Black, Freya Olafson, Reza Rezai, Fredrick Lyle Spence, and Camille-Zoé Valcourt-Synnott for an evening of tea and performance.
An exhibition of the performative tea will open July 17 at La Maison des artistes visuels francophones.

La rencontre : un thé performatif
Cet été, vous êtes invité(e) à assister à La Rencontre, un thé performatif. Bien qu’en apparence simple, le rituel du thé est façonné par des traditions culturelles diverses, des histoires coloniales et des récits personnels. En partenariat avec Urban Shaman, cet événement propose une rencontre alliant performance en direct, rituel participatif et réflexion personnelle autour des structures et des rituels liées à la préparation et à la dégustation du thé.
Rejoignez Fait Maison (Thomas Grondin, Anna Khimasia and Theo Pelmus), et les artistes KC Adams, Jaime Black, Freya Olafson, Reza Rezai, Fredrick Lyle Spence, et Camille-Zoé Valcourt-Synnott pour une soirée de thé et de performance.

Exhibition: La rencontre | The Meeting
The exhibition, based on the performative works of July 10th, invites you to explore the traces and vestiges of these performances. It also presents a sampling of the Tea Explorations, illustrating the complex relationships that various cultures and subcultures have with the practice, blending history, culture, aesthetics, and personal narratives.
As you explore the exhibition, we invite you to reflect on your own role within this constellation of connections. Each work, each gesture, each trace offers a moment of pause, attention and dialogue. What stories resurface as a result of your interactions with these works? What futures can be drawn there? And above all, how could this encounter transform your view of this place, of others and of yourself?

Calling all Indigenous performance artists and those interested in developing performance into their practice! Join KC Adams, Jaime Black, and Lori Blondeau for a community gathering at Urban Shaman to discuss the Indigenous performance scene in Manitoba and how to support the next generation of Indigenous performers.
Free, no-registration | Traditional teas, coffee, and food provided | Indigenous artists of any medium/practice welcome!
